It's About the Neighbors
Block Party San Diego is founded on a simple concept, neighbors who know each other makes for a stronger, safer neighborhood. The idea started in 1999 with a grant opportunity from The San Diego Foundation. The project originally held monthly family friendly events at a local recreation center and featured graffiti artists, classical musicians, African drummers, and presentations from the Anti-Defamation League. A year later, with participation levels waning and an increasing crime rate in San Diego, the idea to bring the program to the people through neighborhood block parties took shape. Today, we are providing residents throughout San Diego the support they need to connect to their neighbors and their community.
Through the support of generous donors and corporate sponsors, Block Party San Diego is able to provide block party planning and support in low-income communities. We believe every neighborhood block should be able to experience true community.
